About the Artist

 

Gary bowers earned a BFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art with magna cum laude’ honors in 1994. After graduation, he had several successful exhibits at Goucher College, Harbor Court in Baltimore, and Swinney’s Bluff Side Gallery in Louisville, Ky.

In 2002, Gary moved to the Washington, DC area to continue building his career as an artist. That year, Gary met the artist and art instructor, Rob Vander Zee. Since then, Rob has helped quide Gary to discover his own voice and personal painting style.

In 2006, Gary graduated from the Vander Zee School of Painting with honors. He now has a painting studio and gallery space in historic Old Town, Alexandria, where he continues to develop as a painter.

In the spring of 2009, Gary was invited to exhibit his work in Vilnius, Lithuania as part of Europe’s Capital of Culture Celebration. He also participated in an exhibit at the Lithuanian National Museum of Art and two of his paintings have become part of the museum’s permanent collection.

Gary’s wok is quickly finding it’s way into many private collections and galleries in the Mid-Atlantic region and overseas.
